A Junk Removal Tale for the History Books
It all started with a call to our chief junk hauler about a house in Washington D.C. The estate executor needed help clearing out the home of a gentleman who had been a serious hoarder. And when I say serious, I mean floor-to-ceiling paper documents on the first floor and waist-high stacks on the second. This house was a paper mountain!
As our brave hauler stepped into this paper jungle, he noticed something that sent chills down his spine—a single sheet of paper gently wafting in the heat of the gas stove’s pilot light. The house was a matchstick away from going up in flames!
But wait, it gets crazier. Amidst the mountains of paper, our hauler stumbled upon two active grenades from World War II. Yes, you read that right—two live grenades! One was a fragmentation grenade, and the other was a chemical grenade. Quite the explosive collection, wouldn’t you say?
From Junk to Jail: A Detonation Detour
Realizing the imminent danger, our hauler did the only sensible thing—he contacted the local authorities. What followed was a whirlwind of sirens, flashing lights, and an intense eight-hour interrogation by both the D.C. police and the U.S. military. Talk about a Fourth of July preview!
Home Safe with a Story to Tell
After what felt like a lifetime, our chief hauler was finally released. The grenades were safely removed, and the house was cleared of its paper piles. In total, it took 15 truckloads to empty that house. But we walked away with an epic tale that we’ll be sharing for years to come.
