We at Spartan Junk Removal have found that many homes in Prince George County are in need of furniture removal, or at least some kind of a junk removal. Don’t worry, we aren’t judging! One of the main reasons we don’t get calls for junk and furniture removal is simply because people have a hard time letting go of items they once loved and cherished. If you need help choosing what goes and what stays, check out the following tips to decide:
Take Your Time
Deciding on everything in your home in one fell swoop is a surefire way to burn yourself out. Sitting down for more than an hour at a time will make going through your stuff seem like much more of a chore than it should be. Make a schedule of days when you are going to commit to the clean out over the course of a few weeks. Then, divide your basement, garage, bedroom, or whatever space needs to be sorted into sections that you will tackle on those dates.
There’s no Middle Ground!
Many people look at their junk and say “Well, I might need this again someday.” Wrong! Do not let yourself put a “maybe” on any of your items. Everything is usually a yes or a no. When people start sticking to their in-between ground, that’s how they end up keeping much more stuff than they actually need. Don’t be afraid to cut the ties on some older and mostly unwanted items.
Garage Sale
If you have the patience to put on a garage sale, it can be an excellent motivator to help you get rid of items. If you own something in pretty good condition, chances are that someone else will pay you for it! As you sort through your old stuff, you’ll be able to see these items as an opportunity to make some cash. If you make a plan to use that money for a vacation, it can motivate you all the more to sell unnecessary things.
Donate
Whatever doesn’t sell that’s in great condition can be donated. Once you’ve decided to get rid of something and put a price tag on it, don’t let it go back into your home. Donate your items to a charity of your choice that can make good use of them! This is a great way to make further use out of clothes that are still in good condition, DVDs, books, and other small items! As far as larger furniture goes, there are always places looking for larger items that are in good condition. You may want to call ahead and ask if there is a need first before donating!

Let’s be honest – you’re going to have old furniture and other items that are damaged beyond the point that can be sold or donated. And, some items just can’t be donated.
